About Us

The story of Kiah (K-Eye-Yah) began in 2016, when two Brisbane-based pharmacists, Tanya and Con, realised that they could play a bigger role in improving people’s health by preventing and managing disease using food and lifestyle rather than treatment with medication.

The constant exposure to escalating medical conditions and seemingly more and more prescriptions as a “band-aid solution” was a catalyst in the decision to start doing something differently. Day-in and day-out they were dispensing medications for conditions that they knew were largely preventable or manageable through diet, and so they decided to dedicate their time and effort to a more positive and proactive way of preventing, managing and reversing these health conditions. To do this, we need to provide education on diet and lifestyle as well as the tools to achieve these changes. And so, Kiah was born!

We choose the name Kiah for two reasons.

Kiah means “from the beautiful place.” We hope that your experience with Kiah and the impact it has on your quality of life, your health, and your overall wellbeing is truly beautiful. Kiah will provide you with a vast array of healthy, organic, nutritious wholefoods that will also cater for most dietary requirements and intolerances. We are also committed to ensuring our prices on these foods are as affordable as possible at all times as it is central to our belief that healthy, nutritious foods should be accessible to everyone, and that everyone deserves the opportunity for optimal health.

We stock a range of Certified Organic products, including fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, nuts and seeds, and personal care products. The owners and team at Kiah have experienced the benefits in avoiding pesticides, herbicides, and preservatives when switching to certified organic.

However we are not just an organic health food store. We are committed to educating and supporting our customers on their healthy eating journey. Whether you are just embarking on this healthy eating journey, are newly diagnosed with a medical condition or food intolerance or well onto the path of wellness, Kiah is here to support you. The team at Kiah include Accredited Practising Dietitians and Accredited Nutritionists who will provide you with all the support and evidence- based advice you require regarding food, dietary concerns and healthy eating choices.

Our dietitians and nutritionists are available for on the floor enquiries as well as private consultations in person, over the phone or via Skype. The consultations ca n often be bulk-billed with a doctors referral, or be eligible for rebate from your private health insurer (HICAPS facilities available in store).

Kiah in Welsh means “person of earth.” Our commitment to Kiah grew as it became evident that healthy, nutritious, organic eating will not only serve to benefit the wellbeing of our people but also our planet. Organic farming is better for the environment. It promotes eco-sustenance and preserves agricultural diversity. Organic farming practices reduce pollution, conserve water, reduce soil erosion, increase soil fertility, and use less energy. Farming without pesticides is also better for nearby flora and fauna as well as people who live close to farms. Organic farming ensures a safer and healthier world for future generations.

On a personal note, we here at Kiah are extremely passionate about supporting our local Aussie farmers. We are committed to buying our organic food from the small, local farmer as we believe is it of a much higher quality, and we wish to help ensure they remain financially viable for many years to come.

We hope that you want to become a part of the Kiah family, become a person of Earth and become a part of this ‘Beautiful Place.’ May your journey with us improve your quality of life, your long-term health as well as that of our planet and our future generations.

We would love to hear from you
